What did you like most about the interview process? It was very authentic and didn't seem forced. Everyone was transparent and gave me a good picture of what the role would entail. I got to meet the whole team before I started and the interview questions were appropriate.
What makes you most happy at work?Working for a bike company comes with lots of perks but the best part is that you get to make an impact on a fairly young company that is still growing fast. You learn a lot and might take on a few extra things but you are recognized and can grow your career.
What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?People here are humble and want to work with one another. They aren't trying to run over people to get ahead. There is an overall respect for people and we are for each other.
Our mission at Santa Cruz Bicycles is to make the best bicycles and to have fun doing it.
Santa Cruz Bicycles was founded in 1994 and its current CEO is Joe Graney. Since its inception 32 years ago, Santa Cruz Bicycles has grown to 500 employees.
At Santa Cruz Bicycles, our mission is to build the best bicycles possible and to have fun doing it. This isn’t about glory or status. It’s about building bikes to last a lifetime and backing them up with top-tier rider support. Less waste and less hassle mean more fun and more time on the bike. But this “No Missed Rides” policy does not end with our customers. We treat our employees with the same mentality: that every moment on the trail, every evening with our families, and every weekend away counts. We’re not interested in holding our employees back with meaningless work. We provide them with the support they need so they can focus on real goals, real results, and what really matters. That’s why our employees don’t view us as a “company to work for.” To them, working here is a lifestyle choice. It’s not the bikes that bring us together, it’s our sense of community, our passion for the brand, and our desire to be a part of something that does.
Santa Cruz Bicycles was founded on the belief that bikes are a force for good, and that they bring out the best in people. The world has changed quite a bit since 1994, but that attitude still holds true. It comes to life in the partners we ride with, the communities we support, and the initiatives we drive.
In 2016 our world headquarters in Santa Cruz, underwent a solar retrofit that included adding 1,100 panels to the top of the building and another 930 over the parking lot across the street. The resulting 80,000 square feet of solar panels generate almost all the energy required to run the factory—another step towards lowering our climate impact.
It goes without saying that Santa Cruz's 200+ employees love bikes. We love making them, riding them, and getting around on them—which includes commuting to work. In addition to supporting efforts to increase cycling infrastructure locally, Santa Cruz incentivizes employees to ride their bikes, walk, or carpool to work to help take a small step towards reducing CO2 emissions—and since 2019, they have ridden more than 115,000 commute miles.
PayDirt is our commitment to increasing access to trails by supporting the work of the people who make it happen. As a start, we pledged $1 million over three years towards trail projects, organizations, events, and programs geared toward creating and strengthening opportunities for people to get out on the trails.
We’ve always supported the communities and organizations near and dear to us. But PayDirt helps us spread the love outside our own backyard, to riders around the world making not only their trail situation better, but encouraging diversity and inclusion in those communities as well.
